In the fall of 2009, I was Mom of two daughters (ages 9 and 7) who loved volunteering in their school but also had a deep desire to counsel children. One evening, my husband asked me, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Little did he know, but that simple question was my catalyst for change. That night, I decided to combine my love for being in schools and helping children by becoming a School Counselor. Several months later, in January of 2010, I returned to school to earn my Master's in School Counseling.
After graduating with my Master's in School Counseling in 2013, I worked as a School Counselor at Mt. Mourne Middle School (International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program) in Mooresville, NC, for 5 years. I absolutely love working with middle schoolers! In 2018, I joined the Community School of Davidson (a charter school in Davidson, NC) as a School Counselor and leadership team member. My focus at CSD was transitioning to high school (8th/9th grades) and mental health counseling for 8th-12th grades. After 5 years at CSD, my husband was offered an opportunity to work in Chicago, IL so we embraced the adventure and spent 1 1/2 yrs in Lincoln Park. We are now back in Canton, GA, and I am looking forward to funneling my passion into helping students from the periphery of the education system. I am confident this will enable me to provide focused, effective support to help your student reach their academic, social, emotional, and career potential!
Rewind a little... I grew up in Greensboro, NC, and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1995 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. GO DAWGS!!! While at UGA, I met my husband Lee, and we married in 1996. We have two daughters, Katie (24) and Ashleigh (22) who are enrolled in graduate degrees. We have lived in Canton, GA; Mooresville, NC; and Chicago, IL. Lee and I now live in Canton (for a second time!) as empty nesters with our 2-year-old mini Bernedoodle, Kirby Smart Dawg. When not spoiling Kirby, Lee and I spend our free time traveling, especially to visit family in SC, NC and FL. In addition to working with children, my other passions include DIY projects and self-care!
